POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Fraud Examiner

BUREAU SERVED: Medicaid Fraud

LOCATION: Chicago

POSITION SALARY: Commensurate with experience

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Fraud Examiner is responsible for collecting and analyzing information from a variety of sources and is required to use that information to determine investigative strategies and case objectives. The Fraud Examiner will analyze documents; collect and process evidence; locate and interview victims, witnesses and others; assist with background checks; write reports; and assist with the execution of subpoenas and search warrants.

The Fraud Examiner will also provide input to affidavits and subpoenas; recommend possible investigative steps; testify in court regarding investigative findings; prepare summary exhibits and reports in support of their testimony; and participate in strategic planning sessions with investigators, fraud investigative groups, and task forces. Additionally, they will be responsible for creating analytic reports, summaries, graphs and charts for use in investigations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in sociology, psychology, criminal justice, criminology, health care administration, or public administration. Applicants must have knowledge of Microsoft Office products, an ability to demonstrate critical analysis, and strong technological, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the ability to conduct research using law enforcement databases and open-source search tools, and outstanding written and communication skills is required. Attendance, flexibility, and the ability to build and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other agencies and OAG employees is also required.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of the health care industry and medical coding concepts (CPT, ICD-9/10, DRGs, HCPCS) and/or experience analyzing health care claims data is a plus; the ability to distill complex financial records, use of the grand jury and familiarity with state and federal banking law; and proficiency interviewing individuals with extensive professional financial backgrounds.

Hours of Work: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Monday Friday)
