Description:

The Criminal Consumer and Elder Fraud unit is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Attorney General responsible for prosecuting criminal consumer fraud and elder fraud cases. Assistant Attorneys General in the Criminal Consumer Fraud and Elder Fraud Unit will conduct criminal investigations (including Grand Jury investigations) and prosecutions in Illinois State court. Criminal consumer fraud cases may involve home repair fraud and fraud related to elderly victims.

Responsibilities:

Cases in the unit are handled as vertical prosecutions. Attorneys will be required to prosecute cases from intake through sentencing and post-trial motions. Attorneys will be expected to evaluate cases, provide assistance to law enforcement during the course of the investigations, initiate charges, obtain subpoenas in the Grand Jury, litigate motions, conduct trials (both bench and jury), sentencing hearings, and post-trial motions.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have an in-depth knowledge of the principles of criminal law, rules of evidence, and judicial procedures. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Illinois at the time of application. They must have a minimum of three (3) years of prosecution or other relevant post-graduate legal experience. Ideal candidates will be hard working, organized, and have a strong interest in helping seniors and victims of fraud. Travel for investigations and prosecution may be frequent.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, salary starts at $79,008 for attorneys with the minimum of three years of experience as an attorney.
