The Child Support Enforcement Division of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for its Rockford office to handle child support enforcement cases and other litigation in several counties in northern Illinois. A strong candidate will have a demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for trial work, and experience handling a high volume of cases. Travel is required

Responsibilities:

Attorneys in the Child Support Enforcement Division represent the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services. While most of the litigation involves child support enforcement, attorneys also must handle personal injury lien recoveries, estate liens and claims, excess assistance recoveries, administrative review actions, bankruptcy cases in federal court, and miscellaneous matters. Attorneys appear in court several times a week and must be able to manage several cases during each call, and conduct formal evidentiary hearings when settlement is not reached. Attorneys also must prepare pleadings and responses to motions, and research legal issues. Excellent litigation and negotiation skills are a must. The position also requires superior interpersonal skills as attorneys must maintain good working relationships with court officials and agency staff, as well as interact with the families needing child support enforcement services.

Salary: Salaries start at $76,008 and are commensurate with years of practice.
