Title: Assistant Attorney General

Division: Child Support Enforcement

Bureau: Effingham Office

The Child Support Enforcement Division of the Illinois Attorney Generalís Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for its Effingham office to handle child support enforcement cases and other litigation in several counties in southern Illinois. A strong candidate will have a demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for courtroom work, and experience handling a high volume of cases. Travel is required.

Attorneys in the Child Support Enforcement Division represent the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services. Attorneys appear in court several times a week and must be able to manage several cases during each call, and conduct formal evidentiary hearings when settlement is not reached. Attorneys also must prepare pleadings and responses to motions, and research legal issues. Excellent litigation and negotiation skills are a must. The position also requires superior interpersonal skills as attorneys must maintain good working relationships with court officials and agency staff, as well as interact with the families needing child support enforcement services.

Salary:   Salaries start at $76,008 and are commensurate with years of practice.
