SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Deputy Director of Human Resources shall assist the Director of Human Resources in managing and developing the human resources bureau and personnel operations of the Office of the Illinois Attorney General. The Deputy Director of Human Resources shall provide leadership, supervision, guidance and training to Human Resources staff. The Deputy Director of Human Resources shall oversee employee benefits including insurance programs, pension and pay schedules. They are responsible for assisting with labor contracts and contract negotiations; processing requests for reasonable accommodations; analyzing, developing and preparing a variety of statistical reports and information as needed for management review; maintaining and updating office policies and procedures; and participating in strategic planning.

The Deputy Director of Human Resources will review documents to ensure accuracy, adherence to personnel policy, accepted standards, and processing criteria; participate in the onboarding process of new hires; facilitate employee relations; and handle discipline and termination of employees. The Deputy Director of Human Resources also works closely with the Chief Fiscal Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, sociology, human resources, or any related field, and 5 years’ experience in a human resources environment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires knowledge of labor relations and collective bargaining and employment laws, and the ability to work in a confidential environment. Proven leadership, excellent organizational skills and prudent decision making are a requirement along with effective written and oral communications skills. Attendance and the ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public are essential functions of this position.

Hours of Work: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Monday - Friday)
