Attorney General Lisa Madigan today submitted testimony in support of US EPA’s proposed regulations to control the emission of mercury from coal- and oil-fired power plants. “These proposed regulations are mandated by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, and are now eight years overdue. They are vitally needed to safeguard the most vulnerable members of our society, especially pregnant women and children, from the emission of toxic air pollutants, including mercury, from coal and oil fired power plants,” Attorney General Madigan said. Environmental Division Chief Matthew Dunn presented the testimony this morning at a US EPA hearing held in Chicago.
