Attorney General Lisa Madigan stands with Misty Cobb, a recovering methamphetamine user, during a two-day conference in Bloomington about the impact of methamphetamine on agriculture, health care and child welfare. Madigan delivered the keynote address during the conference while Cobb spoke about the effects of meth on her and her family. The event was sponsored by Illinois State University, the Mennonite School of Nursing and Project X, a $2.5 million initiative targeting abuse of the illegal drugs Ecstasy and meth throughout Illinois.

METHAMPHETAMINE PRECURSOR CONTROL ACT OFFERS HOPE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST
METH LABS
Legislation signed into law in the fall of 2005 will change the way pseudoephedrine
and ephedrine are displayed and sold. The bill was drafted by the Office of Illinois
Attorney General Lisa Madigan and sponsored by a bipartisan group of legislators.
This new law, the Methamphetamine Precursor Control Act (MPCA), will greatly
help Illinois in the fight against the spread of methamphetamine.

COUNTY FARM BUREAU INVOLVEMENT IN PROGRAMS ABOUT METHAMPHETAMINE
Brown County Farm Bureau (CFB)
The CFB Women’s Committee gave a presentation about meth to 450 fifth graders
and 29 teachers. A toy anhydrous nurse tank demonstrated the dangers of contact
with anhydrous. The message also included the criminal penalties of stealing
anhydrous as well as manufacturing or distributing methamphetamine.

WILLIAMSON
COUNTY SEES INCREASE IN LOCAL EFFORTS TO FIGHT METH
Local action is providing a boost to Williamson County in its fight against meth.
While the county government has passed a resolution to strengthen the county’s
work against meth and increase public awareness, a local hospital has begun implementing
a promising new system to track incidents related to meth.

CAMA RECEIVES
FEDERAL GRANT, EXPANDS SERVICES TO COMMUNITIES
CAMA, the Coalition Against Methamphetamine Abuse in Clark and Edgar counties,
has received a $98,686 federal grant from the Office of National Drug Control
Policy to support their ongoing work combating substance abuse.

The Illinois National Guard Counterdrug Division supports schools with life skills
training, drug resistance classes, learning activities, and mobile ropes courses.
