| Violent Crimes Victims' Assistance
Greetings:
Violent crime is a senseless, often random act, and we see far too much of it in today’s society. It is no longer enough to ensure that offenders receive the harshest punishment under the law. Victims and their families need our support as they attempt to rebuild lives torn apart by tragedy.
The Office of the Attorney General has made it a priority to provide services that help victims meet their challenges and regain some peace of mind. Programs administered by the Crime Victims Services Division include: • The Illinois Crime Victim Compensation Program: provides direct financial assistance to help victims cover medical and other crime related expenses.
• The Violent Crime Victims Assistance Program: established in 1984, the VCVA provides grants to victim advocacy programs throughout the state. The money comes from fines paid by criminal offenders, not taxpayer dollars.
• The Statewide Victims Assistance Program: (Statewide Victim Assistance Program.wpd) established in 1998, the program provides services to crime victims whose cases are prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney General. The program is also available to the 102 State's Attorneys across Illinois.
Sincerely,

Lisa Madigan Attorney General
