JOB OPPORTUNITIESOFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL POSTING #13-01 POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Accountant PERMANENT ASSIGNMENT: Deputy Chief of Staff, Administration BUREAU SERVED: Accounting LOCATION: Springfield Office SALARY: 43,356 -79,404 annually SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs professional accounting and/or budgetary planning work and enhances managerial effectiveness by analyzing and maintaining detailed accounts in compliance with Comptroller guidelines; compiling information; and/or auditing/preparing financial statements, filings, and reports according to rules, regulations, procedures, and statutes. Reconciles and resolves account discrepancies by investigating documentation; issuing stop payments, or adjustments; collecting and analyzing account information; and preparing special reports and complex financial statements. Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends. Ensures availability of funds and collects revenue by informing management of delinquent accounts; notifying customers of insufficient payments; establishing and maintaining various obligation funds. Maintains and balances accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions; reconciling entries. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions. Processes purchases and audits vouchers by verifying transaction information; scheduling and preparing disbursements; obtaining authorization of payment. Provides accounting support services for administration of the charitable trusts and solicitations acts by auditing information submitted by charitable trusts and solicitations acts, by auditing information submitted by charitable organizations, and analyzing financial records. Keeps financial information confidential. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field preferred and one year of accounting or auditing experience, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Extensive knowledge of professional and state accounting procedures, methods, and laws; standard office accounting equipment; personal computers and appropriate financial software are required. May require extensive knowledge of Accounting Information System and Statewide Accounting Information System (SAMS). Requires ability to analyze, interpret, and prepare complex records, reports, and financial systems. Attendance is an essential function of this position. Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public required.
